Shadowcatcher is a mysterious term reputedly coined by the Plains Indians in the 1890s to describe the photographic work of Edward Curtis, who chronicled their world for decades.

Since first encountering the word many years ago, Phil Cousineau has found it to be profoundly inspiring in his work in still photography and filmmaking alike.

He explains, "Now that I have has brought together this collection of black and white photos, from 1970-2010, I realize what a poetic metaphor it is for the evanescent images I have been chasing from Michigan to Marrakesh, Ireland to Iceland." The time has flickered by for his impassioned eye.
